Back from Kensington.

Well it was a hectic couple of days down in London, but had a wonderful show. Great to see friends and catch up and the atmosphere, vibe was fantastic! People were spending despite the economic climate!
I have a few figures left and as I have no more fairs until next spring, I am going to add them to my Etsy shop gradually over the next few weeks or so. Next year is a new start, with lots of ideas to be brought to life. I am still taking commissions, so if anyone is interested in a custom made doll, just let me know.
Can't believe it is now over a year since I started doing dolls full time. I think I have learnt a lot in this year and my style has changed quite considerably, I hope for the better!! Just enjoying having the time to try out new methods.
Many thanks to everyone following my blog and leaving such lovely comments, they keep me going. I may post again before christmas, but if I don't, Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to everybody.

Kensington Christmas Festival.

This Saturday 3rd December is the Christmas Festival at Kensington. Julie (Bellabelle Dolls) and I are sharing a table as usual. This time we have a different position. We are on the ground floor in the main foyer to the right of the room. We both have some interesting new creations, so please come and visit our table and say Hello! This time last year we had to dig our cars out of snow to get to the railway station, only to find there was only a couple of trains running all day, we still got there!!!
Here is a picture of one piece that will be at the Festival for sale. Jain x

Look what I got at Miniatura!!!

I got the most special miniature at Miniatura! She is a miniature schnoodle, that is a Miniature Schnauzer x Miniature Poodle. She is now 9 weeks old and called Dora. She is a joy, but my other two Schnauzers are not to keen, there is a fair bit of telling off going on, and ignoring!!! They will come round, but these things take time.
As for Miniatura itself, I had a very good one in the end. A bit slow at times, but I now need to get my head down for more dolls for Pudsey and Kensington. It's not a easy task with a tiny puppy on the loose.
Here are two photos of Dora and also my stand at Miniatura.

The latest York display.

This group of characters are playing strip poker!!!! The wizard being very smug and the poor witch and goblin feeling the stress. I took the photo before the table was fully dressed, the cards were substitute ones. The display is now up and running in The miniature scene shop in York. All these characters are for sale ,but will not be available until probably January, when I get chance to make a replacement display.

Just finished, a commission!

Having not posted for so long thought I would just add a quick picture of a commission I finished today. She is a chocolate witch, a variation of the candy witch I have done before. I dressed her in chocolatey silks and she carries a tray with handmade chocolates made by the wonderful Mags (Magsnificent Miniatures) I know the photo is taken from above and is not showing her to her full potential, but she was a devil to photograph and I liked this one best, shows her kindly face.
It is now head down time to get stock together for Miniatura,Pudsey and Kensington. As I was reminded this week, it is only 5 weeks away!!!Yikes!!! Jain x

My Ellie's Prom!!

Just had to post some pictures of my daughter Ellie's prom. We have had a stressful day but it all turned out alright in the end. I made her dress and I'm pleased with how it turned out. It is a round of 3 functions tonight, finishing at godness knows what time and think we have a few teenagers crashing on the floor here.Jain xx

A little outing on Ebay!!!!

I have decided to take the plunge and occasionally put a figure on ebay!! I have sold a couple of figures in the past on there, but it was a long time ago. The witch there this week is Elsie. She is one of two gossiping/shopping witches. They are both my newer style dolls. They are very finely detailed.

This is the link to Elsie's Ebay auction, please take a look. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180680446427&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_3862wt_1141

The new display for The Miniature Scene shop in York.

First of all a big welcome to my new followers. I am nearly up to the 200 mark and can feel a giveaway coming on!
Have been rather busy this last few weeks and it will continue until after the York Fair next Sunday 5th June. As well as getting stuff ready for the fair I have been working on the new display for The Miniature Scene shop in York. This time I have put vampires in the scene. They are based on Jack Sprat (could eat no fat) and his wife (could eat no lean) but in vampire form. Mrs Sprat is eating an eyeball cake!! Also in the display is their friend, having a kip in her coffin and a vulture in a cage. All these pieces will be available for sale in September when I change the display, if you are interested please email me. Jain xx

Chicago and a new path.

Well I got there and back!!! Just!!! Had a horrible time travelling. My back was still not brill when I left, but funnily enough think the upright seat on the plane maybe helped a bit. The flight there was awful, Julie and I both struggled with it. Think it is the claustrophobic thing!!! The Marriott hotel wasn't much better with no opening windows!!!!
The Bishop fair was an experience. So many fabulous artisans showing there. People who I have only ever seen in print and will probably never see again. The quality of the work at the show was exceptional!! As Julies table (booth) was in the doll room I had plenty of oppurtunity to oggle the workmanship there. Artisans I have admired for years all together in one place, just wonderful!!
I noticed that the dolls I was drawn to were the fixed posed figures, they had so much life and realism in them. I want to do figures like them, that look as if they will just start moving/talking at any time. I have been toying with the idea of doing fixed posed figures for a while now. Dolls I make to stand ,do not look good seated and vice versa. I want them to continue to look good in their new homes.
My intention is to start making my figures with full sculpt legs in either sitting or standing position. For most I will continue to do semi posable arms, some will have full sculpt arms if they need to be on show. I hope people will still be happy with the dolls in this style. I think, in the main, people move figures around and maybe change the chair they sit on, so for that extra realism, the fixed pose style will be spot on.

Julie and I only had 2 days left after the show to explore downtown Chicago. Our hotel was fabulous and all the people we met there were so friendly ,open and helpful, just lovely people. The food was fabulous too. We were very tired by this stage but managed to see some of the city. My favourite part was our visit to The Art institute with the fabulous Miniature Thorne Rooms and to see some of urban areas, the true Chicago!! We had the most fantastic gormet pizza in a tiny back street cafe, Yum!!!! The centre part of Chicago was crammed full of the highest skyscrapers, made you dizzy to look up. All a bit much for a country girl like me. Need fresh air and green stuff!!!LOL All in all it was an experience I will never forget and I'm so glad I did it, but for me it will take a very, very good reason for me to get on a plane again for such a long flight.

Here is a photo of Cici, she is the first of my new style figures. She was inspired by the film Burlesque, I watched on the plane, although not sure Christina Agrilara would be very flattered!!!!!!! Jain xx

Chicago and Kensington

Well it's just a few days now until we leave for Chicago. Julie (Bellabelle dolls) has a table there and I am accompanying her and helping out. Unfortunately I did something to my back last week and have spent the last week in a lot of pain and worrying about actually getting on the plane. I have now seen a physio who has given me some exercises and although the pain is there it is less and hopefully with strong painkillers I will make it.
This little blip has set me back somewhat with my preparations for my trip and with my stock for Kensington. Just will have to work extra hard when I get back from Chicago.
I thought I would just show a picture of some characters who will be coming to Kensington.
Speak soon Jain xx

The winner of the Market research draw!!

Well has been a very busy couple of weeks. The display is now in situ in The Miniature Scene shop in York and looks good. As a result of it being there I was asked, along with Graham from the shop, to take part in a small documentary being made by film students at the University. I went along with some dolls and did an interview for them, scary!!!!!
The other news I have is, I am going to Chicago!!!!!!!WOW!!! Julie (Bellabelle dolls) has got a table at Chicago International show and I am going along to help and have a good look round. I have never been to America and am not brill at flying, so I'm a little nervous, but excited!!!
Now for the other news. Thank you so much to the people who took the time to reply to my market research questions. All the answers I got have been very valuable, it is much appreciated. All the names were put in a hat, the name picked out was' Helen'
Congratulations Helen. If you could email me your address I will send the little piggy home!!!!

Welcome to my new followers, hope you enjoy popping in here.
This is a photo of a little Noel Fielding that I have done for my daughter Ellie's birthday. She is a big Noel and mighty boosh fan.

Market research!!

I have been seeing a business advisor chappie over the last few weeks. He has been trying to send me along the right route when it comes to all things business. Finances and form filling do not come easy to me, nor infact does organisation, but Dave is very patient and has given me some very valuable pointers. This is all free advise through an enterprise group, which I don't think will be there for long, with all the cuts. Anyway, one of the things he said was to do some market research here on my blog. Wasn't sure how it would work, but would be very grateful for any feedback. I think the best thing to do is to post a few questions here and ask people to email me their answers, all totally confidential off course. It would really help me to know what direction to go in.
As a bit of an incentive all participants will be entered in a draw to win a Giddy Character, my little pig and cart pictured above!

Right, here are my questions. Yoy don't have to answer them all, although that would be good.
My email address is giddykipper95@googlemail.com

What do you look for in a doll?

What is an average spend on a 12th scale doll?

How many approx do you buy per year?

Do you buy/collect bigger than 12th scale dolls?

What period/genre do you buy or would like to see more of?

Do you buy from fairs or the internet?

Which fairs?

How are you happiest buying over the internet, private website, selling site, blog/facebook?

What criteria do you use to judge the quality of a doll ie: previous purchase, known name, seen at fairs ?

Thanks everybody in advance.

I'm working on commissions and some dolls to go to fairs, plus ones for sale. I have just been to The Miniature Scene dollshouse shop in York and will be doing a small display to be on show there. Will show some photos of it along the way.

Happy and Healthy New Year to all my friends!

I am so sorry my sale has still not been sorted. I have been a very bad interneter. I am trying to give my blog a bit of a face lift and have at last had a good light day to take the photo's, think I will be investing in a light box this year.
This years plans/resolutions involve being more organised!!!
I've been working on a few commission characters over the last week or so. I hope to be doing a new character to have for sale at least every couple of weeks. I need to really get back into the swing of things after the holidays and buckle down to some serious work.
My silver keepsake jewellery is taking rather a long time to get going and at the moment I seem to be spending to much precious time on trying to get orders. Today I have made a decision to concentrate on the dolls and promoting them. I intend to try and diverse a little with the silver and make some tiny, weenie jewellery that would fit on dolls or be good for display. I want to make a slightly bigger doll as well. I am still going to do just Kensington Festival, certainly for the first half of the year and then see.

Click on the picture on the site bar to go to my etsy sale.

Welcome to my new followers. I wish all a happy, healthy new year. Jain xx
